Who are Outpowered?
From rural North Yorkshire, we look forward to helping you wherever you are and whatever you power needs may be.
Outpowered was founded by a group of outdoors-oriented family and friends living in rural North Yorkshire. As we work, play and occasionally live off-grid, we were driven to finding sustainable portable power that we could use anywhere, transport easily and that could power a diverse range of kit.
Following a deep dive in to a varied array of products, we came to realise how useful portable power could be for a wide range of people with varying mobile power needs – and so our business idea was born.
We thoroughly tested numerous products ourselves – and with the help of electricians, our sporting and equestrian friends, contacts in the construction industry and those with outside catering facilities – all operating across a huge variety of environments, with very different needs.
We lived off-grid and continued to power heating, light, food prep, charging our e-MTB’s, GPS, laptops, and phones. Our portable power station (PPS) enabled the continued (and remote use) of small corded tools to make jobs in the garden and around the house so much easier. Larger PPS’s were trialed in powering outside catering equipment during events and in providing backup for vital household appliances during increasingly frequent power cuts – the potential of portable power stations continues to amaze us.
As a business, we took a close look at how portable power stations were being presented for sale and discovered a minefield.
We decided that with clear and logical advice, users could easily cut through the often confusing technical jargon to find the right solution – not only for their current needs, but also for their potential future requirements.
This naturally led us into the wider world of battery storage – fixed or portable systems that allow energy to be stored when it’s cheapest or most available and then used exactly when it’s needed. Even without solar panels, battery storage offers huge advantages: reducing reliance on the grid during peak prices, providing essential uninterrupted power supply backup in power cuts.
We have found that battery storage systems are a perfect solution for listed buildings; in conservation areas and national parks; any business that can’t (or don’t wish to) install solar panels; and any business that would suffer significant losses during a power cut.
Ecoflow products have come out on top for us right now, for various reasons – their continued development of renewable energy, with a clear grounding in sustainability and their robust and incredibly capable products. Ecoflow products are designed to offer over 10 years of continuous use, using the latest Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology, which is far more sustainable than the older Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) systems.
As a business Outpowered is also actively looking to offset the lifetime carbon footprint of every product we sell (more on that very soon!).
