Power anywhere… for horseboxes or trailers with living

Horseboxes and trailers with living accommodation have traditionally received electricity via a leisure battery and a split charge system/inverter. However, the installation of this system is quite involved, needs to be carried out by a professional, and cannot be removed from the horsebox or trailer, despite it only being used for a fraction of the year.  If gas has been used for cooking etc, there are also drawbacks in terms of the necessary annual Gas Safety Checks.

The alternative to both has generally been a small petrol or diesel generator, which your neighbours still detest, and organisers are increasingly prohibiting.  Also, potentially paying for expensive mains electricity hook up at the limited number of events which offer the service – these often can be £120 + for what can be just a couple of nights’ stay.

Enter the portable power station.

Portable power stations require no professional fitting, are safe and easy to use and can be removed and used elsewhere when not needed in the horsebox or trailer living quarters – powering laptops, charging phones, or perhaps keeping your fridge operating during a power outage. Hence the expense can be split over more than one scenario. In addition, portable power stations can be more easily used to charge e-bikes at horse events or even power extra lighting for when you are clipping back at the stables or need extra lighting or power for the foaling season.

The benefits are :

  • Virtually silent – less than 30 decibels when in full use (usually at least half the noise of a small petrol generator).
  • No need to refuel like a generator, and no need to buy and store petrol or diesel in the vehicle.
  • No ongoing maintenance needs, like a generator.
  • Removes the need for gas certificates, if it replaces gas.
  • Easy to handle and no need to move outside to use. The casing is rugged and relatively lightweight, with the most popular model used in horseboxes weighing 12.5 kg.
  • Push button start – no pull starting struggles!
  • You can always see how much power you have left either directly on the clear display or on the associated app, which is connected by Bluetooth.
  • Portable power stations have an expected life (down to 80% efficiency) of over 11 years, if handled appropriately.
  • Ultra safe using the modern lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry, which has huge improvements in stability and environmental credentials.
  • Ability to recharge via various methods – mains (quickest), vehicle cigarette lighter,  solar (roof fixed or portable panels, solar charge controllers are incorporated inside portable power stations), or via alternator charge (when vehicle is being driven).
  • Ability to be added to the horsebox at any stage in its life.
  • Backed up by a comprehensive 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee.
  • Say goodbye to expensive site mains hookups !!!

The most popular portable power station we sell to horsebox users is the DELTA 3 Plus, whose output can be bolstered by the addition of an extra battery.
