Powering mobile businesses

How we are transforming SMART repairers and van-based businesses with cleaner, quieter, and more efficient energy solutions.

We have recently completed trialing one of our bigger power stations with a highly experienced cosmetic vehicle repairer (also known as a SMART repairer), which has highlighted a number of highly positive benefits:

  1. Improved workload efficiency – grouping jobs at work premises or the ability to work on a vehicle at a customer’s home when the customer is working or on holiday. No need to turn work away.
  2. Not using the customer’s electricity. No additional ‘hidden’ expense for the customer and a customer’s vehicle can be in any location that is practical to work from.
  3. Less stress and time spent setting up and removing cabling, as well as fewer trip hazards.
  4. Safer working environment. No more having to rely on trailing extension cables into a customer’s property and leaving a window or door open.
  5. Reduced hassle and improved professional impression of the service provided.

Power stations can – without fumes and with hardly any noise – power your van tools without having to rely on the customer being present to provide the electricity or being reliant on noisy and smelly generators.

The same positive benefits we have found working with the SMART repairer can also be applied to a whole host of other similar van-based trades easily.

Businesses such as detailers and valeters, often stuck with either using the customers’ electricity supply or using small generators, now have a much cleaner, quieter, more professional option for power. Portable power stations can also provide significant cost savings over a 5-year period, despite the higher up-front costs.

Other trades who could also benefit include mobile alloy wheel refurbishers, vehicle wrappers and vinyl graphics installers, upholstery and trim repairers (not just in the vehicle market but in the wider residential and commercial reupholstery market).  Auto electricians fitting items such as dashcams or security trackers, could also benefit along with window replacement services. Any van-based surface repair specialist for the home, removing dents, scratches and stains could also benefit from having a portable power station in their van increasing efficiency by using the van as a true mobile workshop. Even mobile pet groomers can benefit from using portable power stations!

As battery technology continues to get more powerful and lighter, the opportunities for portable power stations within vans powering mobile technicians grows exponentially.

Portable power stations can be quickly recharged through the mains (overnight when electricity is generally cheaper) or alternatively recharged via an alternator charger when the van is moving.

Interestingly cost (compared against the use of generators) very much favours portable power stations over a 5 year period – as maintenance costs are zero and the cost of refuelling is eliminated to a large extent, especially if the power stations are recharged at off peak times or through alternator chargers.

Portable power stations, supplying quiet and clean power anywhere, will continue to influence the development of mobile SMART repairers but will also have significant positive effects on all mobile technicians around the UK and how they work.
