Experience has taught us that many people are buying portable power stations as emergency back up power for mobility scooters.
Mobility scooter battery chargers come in all shapes and sizes and it’s important to only use the charger supplied with your scooter. Virtually all recharge from mains AC electricity via a standard 3 pin male plug, however if you are out in the country or planning a longer than usual drive or unfortunately experience a home power cut what can you do ? Well, many people use a portable power station which is a large mobile battery bank and will have a standard AC sockets in which to plug into. These are pre-charged at home via mains electricity (much the fastest method) although they can be charged by alternative means mainly either from a car cigarette lighter or a solar panel (which is either portable or fixed).
The mobility scooter charger is simply just plugged into the portable power station to recharge. The recharge time obviously depends on the depth of charge necessary and the size of the scooter battery but an hour is generally a good rule of thumb. Mobility scooter motors generally range from 250 (for flat surfaces) up to 1000 watts (for steep hills). Portable power stations start at around 250 watts and incrementally will go up to well over 1000 watts.
Ecoflow are one of the most respected and successful manufacturers of reliable portable power stations in the world. The Ecoflow River 3 series are lightweight at around 3.5kg and have a capacity of 245 watt hours but can be boosted, with additional batteries, up to 572wh if required. The Ecoflow Delta range are more substantial devices with a capacity of just over 1000wH but do weigh 12.5kg. These generally take around an hour to charge from the mains.
